Levitation - Glass sculptures by Ján Zoričák

Temporary exhibition in the Globe of Science and Innovation
From 13 June (as from 14.00) to 24 August 2025, CERN invites you to visit Levitation, a captivating exhibition by the renowned Slovak glass artist Ján Zoričák, hosted at the Globe of Science and Innovation. Presented with the kind support of the Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and the Permanent Mission of the Slovak Republic to the UN in Geneva, Levitation beautifully bridges the world of fine art with the wonders of cutting-edge science.
Zoričák has a rare gift for turning glass into something alive. He transforms both real and imagined space, capturing fleeting moments and vast stretches of time in his sculptures. Each piece seems to freeze a moment of transformation, as if the glass is still in motion, shifting shape, or trying to escape its form. Viewed from different angles, his works reveal new layers, constantly surprising the eye.
Glass is his main medium, but he often weaves in metal, bronze, or natural materials to enrich the texture and meaning. The techniques he uses are his own invention and are constantly evolving, just like his artistic vision. With every new cycle, Zoričák brings something fresh, unexpected, and deeply poetic. His sculptures are more than objects; they’re portals into other worlds.
A number of the works on display have been made using material from CERN experiments.
The exhibition offers not only physical sculptures but also a digital dimension. A short AI-generated film by Nina Tahy and the exhibition’s curator, Ivan Jančár, explores Zoričák’s creations through new technological perspectives. Set to music by Norwegian violinist Mari Samuelsen, the film reveals hidden worlds and textures that might otherwise go unnoticed, illustrating the expanding role of technology in interpreting art.
